Synopsis　あらすじ

Jeff, a routine-minded professional in his thirties, leaves home unnoticed and takes an impromptu road trip seeking solitude, only to discover that his sudden disappearance sparks little concern. He crosses paths with Kelly Łuczyński, the enigmatic front desk clerk. As he roams the hotel's dimly lit corridors and encounters its peculiar guests, an unsettling sense of isolation takes hold. Drawn deeper into the hotel’s quiet strangeness, Jeff finds himself on an unexpected journey of self-discovery, where the line between escape and confrontation begins to blur.

30代で規則正しい生活を送るジェフは、誰にも気付かれずに家を出ると、突然ロードトリップに出かける。彼の失踪は誰の関心も引かず、ジェフは孤独を求めて旅を続ける。ポーランドとドイツの国境近くのホテルで、謎めいたフロント係、ケリー・ウチチンスキーと出会うジェフ。薄暗い廊下を歩き、奇妙な客たちと出会ううちに不安な孤独感に囚われていく。ホテルの静かな異様さに引き寄せられ、ジェフは予想もしなかった自己発見の旅に出ることになる。旅の中で、逃避と対峙の境界線が次第に曖昧になっていく。

Director's Commentary　監督のコメント

ベルリンに1年間滞在しながら、30分の短編映画を撮りました。

これまで仕事として短編映画やストーリー性のあるミュージックビデオを数多く手がけてきましたが、完全な自主制作として映画を撮ったのは大学時代以来でした。

自主制作とクライアントワークの大きな違いは、「説得しなければならない相手が自分自身である」ということです。言葉にすると単純ですが、自分のお金や時間、労力を注ぎ込んで一本の映画を完成させるのは、クライアントを説得するより難しいこともあります。誰かに説明する必要がない代わりに、自分をごまかすこともできません。

制作の途中には、個人的な理由もあって、映画づくりに対する考え方に大きな影響を与えてくれたポーランドのポズナンにも足を運びました。ある意味では、自分の人生のひとつの時期を振り返るような旅でもありました。

ベルリンは本当に国際的な街で、今回のチームもその街らしい顔ぶれでした。改めて振り返ると、参加してくれたメンバーは23カ国の出身。それぞれ異なる価値観や経験、世界の見方を持つ人たちと一緒に作品を作れたことに、とても感謝しています。

I spent a year in Berlin making a 30-minute short film.

Over the years, I’ve worked on many short films and narrative music videos, but this was the first time since university that I made a film completely independently. What makes independent filmmaking different from client work is that the only person you have to convince is yourself. That sounds simple, but committing your own time, money, and energy to finish a film can be harder than convincing any client. There’s no one else to justify decisions to, and very little room for self-deception.

During the process, I also returned to Poznań, Poland, a place that had a profound influence on how I think about filmmaking. In some ways, the trip became a reflection on a particular period of my life.

Berlin is an incredibly international city, and the team that came together for this project reflected that. Looking back, the people involved represented 23 different nationalities, each bringing their own perspectives, experiences, and ways of seeing the world. I’m deeply grateful for that.
