Prototyping: a showcase of CityU innovation
As a director of four artistic films created for the CityU HK Prototyping Exhibition.
I’m very glad to have been invited by the gallery at City University of Hong Kong, where I studied almost 20 years ago, to direct four videos that artistically present the university’s scientific research within custom-built settings.
The set design and filming were carried out by the Hong Kong team, while the post-production was completed here in Tokyo.It was quite a challenge to present serious scientific research in a way that didn’t feel too corporate.
I was also surprised to learn that many technologies we encounter in everyday life have been significantly developed with contributions from universities in Hong Kong.

約20年前に通っていた母校、香港城市大学（City University of Hong Kong）のギャラリーからお声がけいただき、大学で行われている科学研究を題材にした映像4本の監督を務めました。
ギャラリー空間の中に作られたセットの中で、それぞれの研究を映像として表現しています。
セットデザインと撮影は香港のチームが担当し、ポストプロダクションは東京で行いました。
本格的な科学研究を、いかにも企業的な紹介映像にならない形で映像化するのはなかなか難しい挑戦でした。
また、私たちが日常的に使っているさまざまな技術の背景に、香港の大学による研究開発が大きく関わっていることにも驚かされました。
